I am too big of a basketball fan to miss this opportunity to congratulate Steph Curry on joining an exclusive club of basketball players on Monday night.
He dropped 53 points on Monday against the Denver Nuggets, which was his 9th time dropping 50 or more in the NBA. Sam Amick of The Athletic reported:
Steph Curry also passed Wilt Chamberlain to become the Golden State Warriors’ all-time leading scorer, with over 17,800 points in his career thus far.
Steph is hands down the best shooter I have ever seen. I have been watching him since he was playing in college at Davidson, and I watched a bunch of games while I was living in San Francisco during the championship runs a few years back. His range changed the game of basketball forever. They even added a new shooting spot to the three-point competition. Bravo Steph, you really have been fun to watch. I’m excited to see what the Warriors are able to do next season too. I’m hoping Klay Thompson comes back healthy next year. When these two guys are on fire, they are the best backcourt in basketball.
Speaking of things being on fire; I read a scary warning today about the coming wildfires in California this year. A team of researchers from San Jose State University’s Wildfire Interdisciplinary Research Center reported in early April that they “noticed something wasn't quite right” with the trees carpeting the Santa Cruz mountains. Craig Clements, the director of the wildfire research center said, "I was shocked when we went up there because usually in April we have a lot of new growth and old growth, and we didn’t see any new growth on the shrubs."
Record low fuel-moisture content means lots of old dry branches and leaves ready to catch fire. Over 4 million acres burned in the over 8,200 wildfires in California last year. The scientists are forecasting this year to be even worse. Consider this an early warning.
On the bright side, Coinbase stock goes on sale via a special acquisition (SPAC) direct listing today with a reference price of $250 per share and the ticker COIN. This is the first major direct listing on the Nasdaq, as other big ones like Slack and Palantir, have gone public via the New York Stock Exchange. Coinbase stock is a great opportunity to get exposure to the crypto space. But if you’re looking for a bit of a safer bet, take a look at Viacom CBS (VIAC). They were hit hard after BillHwang’s hedge fund got caught with their pants on fire earlier this month. The stock is once again trading around $40 after climbing to $100 per share in the last 3 months.
