You might think it silly that I find your gift to me so perfect. It’s literally exactly what I asked for. To which you might retort, “No duh. We bought it from your giftly.”
Yes. Exactly. Isn’t that perfect?! Our cousin thinks pre-arranged gift-giving undermines the thoughtfulness of the gift. Perhaps. But in purchasing exactly what I wanted, you were being thoughtful, thinking how particular I can be, you thought it best not to let your ego decide on my behalf what my ego wanted as a Christmas gift — what could be more thoughtful than that?!
And in our mother’s gift-giving spirit, you bought me a thoughtful something extra: TEA!
