Description

The Trump administration is threatening to hollow out the education department until the agency is completely shuttered by an act of Congress. This is triggering glee among some and concern from others.

While both sides have legitimate concerns, few proponents seem aware that the agency is a colossal failure by its own subpar standards. Moreover, there are some major misconceptions about what happens to public schools if the education department is abolished.

In this video, I break down the education department’s own assessment of itself and discuss frustrating experiences with those in the system.

Notes:

There are zero academic categories in which more than half of America’s public education students are proficient. ZERO.

* In 2024, 30% of fourth-grade students performed at or above the proficient level on the mathematics assessment > SOURCE

* It only got worse with more time. Only 28% of eighth-grade students performed at or above proficient levels in math > SOURCE

* The report only gets worse when it comes to reading. Only 31% percent of fourth-grade students performed at or above the proficient level on the 2024 National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP)] reading assessment > SOURCE

This level of failure is prevalent across the board. See for yourself @ The Nation’s Report Card.
