A Call to Be Seen

On Sunday, February 1st, we experience a powerful full moon in the sign of Leo. This lunation arrives at a time when many content creators, influencers, writers, public speakers, activists, poets, artists, and journalists are expressing deep frustration.

Across major platforms—such as TikTok and others—voices are being suppressed, work is being limited by algorithms, and authentic expression is often pushed into the shadows.

As someone who uses a personal platform to speak out against injustices around the world, I have also directly experienced severe suppression of my content. And as a Leo, it is infuriating.

Leo is a sign that is meant to be seen. It is meant to be visible. It exists to express its most authentic, creative, and truthful parts without apology. And if you, too, take pride in sharing your creativity, your truth, and your voice, chances are this suppression has angered you as well.

Why a Cord-Cutting Ritual During a Leo Full Moon?

As the moon grows full in Leo—a sign intrinsically tied to self-expression, creativity, and visibility—I have chosen to perform a cord-cutting ritual. This ritual is a symbolic and energetic way of severing ties with anything that keeps our authentic selves unseen, unheard, and confined.

Cord cutting is not about anger or revenge. It is about release. It allows us to energetically detach from unwanted people, situations, habits, patterns, and experiences that keep us feeling stuck, constrained, or boxed in.

You might choose to sever ties with:

* A past romantic relationship

* An unhealthy or limiting job situation

* Self-sabotaging habits or recurring patterns

* External systems, energies, or circumstances that suppress your truth

For me personally, this ritual represents cutting ties with being confined to a particular box—and to a particular algorithm. It is about reclaiming visibility, truth, and sovereignty over my own voice and creativity.

If you feel ready to sever ties with a person, place, energy, habit, or entity, I invite you to join me in this ritual.

What You’ll Need for the Cord-Cutting Ritual

You can perform this cord-cutting ritual on the day of the full moon itself—Sunday, February 1st—or within a couple of days after. Full moon energy remains potent for several days, so trust your intuition when choosing the timing.

To perform this ritual, gather the following items:

* Two candles

* One candle represents you

* One candle represents whatever you are severing ties from

* Two small bowls or containers

* These should be able to hold the candles securely

* Salt or rice

* Used to fill the bowls and stabilize the candles

* Both salt and rice also serve as cleansing, grounding foundations

* A string or cord

* This will be wrapped around both candles

Before beginning, cleanse the space where you will perform the ritual. You can do this by smudging with sage, palo santo, or by using Florida water—whatever cleansing method resonates with you.

Preparing the Candles

Before wrapping the cord around the candles, clearly designate which candle represents what.

The most effective way to do this is by:

* Inscribing your name into the candle that represents you

* Inscribing the name of the person, situation, habit, or energy you are releasing into the other candle

Once the candles are designated:

* Tie the string or cord into a circle.

* Loop it a couple of times.

* Attach each end of the cord to one of the candles, symbolically binding them together.

* Place each candle into its own bowl filled with salt or rice.

Protecting and Honoring Yourself in the Ritual

It is important to give extra care and love to the candle that represents you. This ensures that the ritual does not come back to harm you in any way and that the severing is done with love and intention.

You may:

* Sprinkle fresh rose petals

* Add lavender or cinnamon

* Place crystals around your candle

This step reinforces self-protection, compassion, and energetic integrity throughout the ritual.

Performing the Cord-Cutting Ceremony

Once everything is set, light both candles. Take three deep, intentional breaths. As the candles burn, visualize what this severing represents for you. You may be releasing:

* Old fears and anxieties

* An unhealthy attachment or relationship

* A pattern that keeps you hidden or unseen

* Anything that prevents the full truth of who you are from being expressed

Give yourself permission to fully imagine the release taking place. You may also find it helpful to write down your intentions beforehand or to speak them aloud during the ritual. Naming what you are calling forth adds power and clarity to the process.

Letting the Ritual Complete Its Work

As the candles continue to burn, the cord connecting them will eventually dissolve and sever. This is the ritual actively working on your behalf.

Allow the candles to burn all the way down. Observe how they burn and how they interact with each other, as this can provide insight into the nature of what you are releasing and how the energy is shifting.

Once both candles have fully burned and the cord has completely severed:

* Take a few more deep breaths

* Offer gratitude for the release and the clarity gained

* Dispose of the remains responsibly

Returning to Magic in Uncertain Times

With so much happening in the world, it is easy to feel helpless—as though there is nothing we can do to make a difference. That is precisely why, during powerful astrological events like a Leo full moon, I choose to return to magic.

This ritual is an act of remembrance: a reminder that our voices matter, our gifts are unique, and our contributions are indispensable.

When we share the most authentic parts of ourselves, we give others permission to do the same. And through that collective authenticity, we participate in the creation of a new world—together.

Share this ritual with others if it resonates.

Full Moon blessings to you and yours.
