A Monumental Astrological Ingress
It is time to talk about Neptune ingressing the sign of Aries, a monumental astrological transit that many astrologers have been closely tracking.
Neptune enters Aries on Monday, January 26, marking the beginning of a profound new cycle with far-reaching collective implications. Much of what has been said about this transit is true—and history helps us understand why.
The last time Neptune entered Aries was during the American Civil War and the period of Reconstruction that followed. When Neptune briefly dipped into Aries during the spring and summer seasons last year, it offered a preview of what is now fully unfolding: the start of an important new cycle.
Neptune, Cycles, and Collective Evolution
Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, the sign that initiates the zodiacal calendar. Each spring, Aries energy signals renewal and new beginnings. Neptune, meanwhile, is the second slowest-moving planet in our solar system. It spends an estimated 14 years in each zodiac sign, taking more than 140 years to complete a full orbit around the Sun.
In astrology, Neptune is deeply connected to collective consciousness. This is what makes this ingress so significant. Neptune is returning to the first sign of the zodiac, effectively closing out a 140-plus-year cycle and initiating a brand-new one. That alone is monumental.
This return to Aries can be seen as a metaphor for where we are as a collective. We, too, are returning to a starting point—albeit as a far more evolved society. Much has changed over the last 140+ years since the Civil War era. And yet, in many ways, not enough has changed. As we prepare to move forward into a new cycle, we may be required to reckon with unresolved issues from the last one.
Neptune as the Illusionist
I often describe Neptune as the “illusionist” of the solar system. In forecast readings I give to my clients, Neptune transits frequently coincide with experiences that dissolve falsehoods, veils, and layers that prevent us from seeing reality clearly.
Sometimes this dissolution is revelatory, bringing long-awaited clarity. More often, however, Neptune brings disillusionment—the realization that something is not what we believed it to be.
This is why discernment is essential during Neptune transits. Questions naturally arise:
* Is it me?
* Is it the situation?
* Am I overreacting?
* Did I imagine this?
Neptune’s influence is elusive, subtle, and often confusing. And because Neptune governs the collective as much as the personal, these same questions must now be asked on a societal level.
Historical Parallels: Neptune in Aries Then and Now
The last time Neptune entered Aries, the United States was approaching a breaking point. The movement to abolish slavery was gaining momentum, the state of the Union was unraveling, and Abraham Lincoln was on the brink of losing the Southern states.
The veil was lifting. The nation could no longer maintain the illusion that the United States were truly united. Neptune in Aries forced a confrontation with the country’s foundational realities—and the contradictions embedded within them.
That confrontation led to war. It led to devastating divisions: families against families, states against states, and political factions against one another. Fast forward to 2026 with Neptune, once again, preparing to enter Aries, and another veil is lifting.
The Contrasts in 2026
Aries is a fiery, direct, and confrontational sign. Its energy is pointed, unapologetic, and unfiltered. When Neptune moves into Aries, the effect can be shocking, disorienting, and deeply unsettling.
It is akin to moving from black-and-white television into technicolor. How startling this shift feels may depend largely on how much we have been deluding ourselves about the past. What we see now may feel overwhelming precisely because it was previously ignored.
