Summer days unspool
In long, slow arcs of
Fishing line cast
Over a pond;
Creak like chains
On a porch swing,
Gently rocking in
Veranda shade;
Swish like water
Over arms and legs
Stroking and paddling
Around the pool;
Buzz like desultory bees
Planting kisses on
Every flower in
The garden;
Lengthen like shadows
In lazy dusk,
The sun itself staying out
Past bedtime;
Melt and caramelize,
Unrushed as
Marshmallows
For s’mores;
Wrap memories around our
Hearts like pink candy floss
Winding round a paper
Spindle in the shadow
Of a roller coaster,
Laughter sprinkles
Like fairy lights
Twinkling in the dark night.
