“Eye to Eye” is a call to choose to maintain relationships in spite of differences of opinion.
“I can’t pretend to understand the way you think but I will try to. You think I’m wrong, I think you’re right, I do not see all that I want to.”
Our nation has been deeply divided for quite some time. I wrote “Eye to Eye” almost a year ago, not knowing how much deeper that divide would become.
The world tells us to cut each other off when the divisions get too deep. To stay within our own echo chambers so we don’t have to struggle and be uncomfortable. But Christ calls us into unity—with himself.
Jim Elliot was a missionary who ended up paying the ultimate price for trying to share his faith. He wrote (paraphrasing), “We (Christians) should never say, ‘come out where we are!’ We should say, ‘let us run together where he is.’”
This song is inspired by that sentiment.
