Many Christian artists insist that they are not preachers—they are artists. This episode pushes back on that. We may not be handing out the elements at a communion table, but we certainly are leading people to a communion table.
I would suggest that artists are some of the most compelling preachers. Whether musicians, painters, photographers, singer-songwriters or filmmakers. Creating art is a ministry (to the Creator and to the created) and artists are preachers. All of them, Christian or not. Artists illuminate ideas and point people toward light—or toward darkness. They either invite or point people to the Lord’s table or encourage them to eat somewhere else or remain satisfied where they are. They can lead people to healing or to harm.
Artists are wired to care. Caring compels us to preach.
