Description

In this episode I explore the topic of addiction, speaking broadly to my understanding of what addiction is, including substance addiction but also speaking to what underlying force drives addiction.

I am not an expert, but my lens is formed from direct interactions, personal experience, years of studying and working with clients.

Other subtopics that arise:

- How culture shapes addiction

- The spectrum of substance use

- Physical vs psychological addiction

- How addictive behaviour meets a need

- Cultural biases and addiction

- The Fentanyl crisis in brief

- Psychedelic therapy in brief

- Addiction and Accessing treatment

- Behavioural shifts and recovery

- The Wetiko, or Windigo spirit

- The “long game” of sobriety and being intrinsically motivated

Song in intro- "Light of the Mountain" by Brandon Tilt

I acknowledge that I learn, grow and heal on the unceded ancestral lands of the Kwikwetlam first nation, the Stolo and the Tseil-Watuth first nations. These lands were never abandoned nor surrendered by those with the ancestral rights to steward and protect these lands.

I honor and respect the elders, the children, the land stewards, the land protectors, the medicine keepers, and the men and women of all indigenous nations.

Huy ch q’u (thank you) to those who support the indigenous communities and actively decolonize their minds and their spirits.

Aho Mitakuye Oyasin, All my relations.
