In this episode I begin by referring to Brene Brown’s Atlas of the Heart, defining shame and other connected feelings. I further explore the topic through my personal lens and contextualizing my reflections with my take aways from a workshop I attended on healing shame by Tatra de la Rosa, a shame-based practitioner who teaches extensively on the topic. I introduce personal reflections, actively work with my parts during this episode and introduce a few metaphors to help create clarity around the topic.
Subtopics that arose:
- Defining guilt/humiliation/embarrassment
- Common experiences of shame
- Protector Parts and Exile Parts
- The origin of shame: “The Shame solution”
- Plant medicine and vulnerable parts
- How we can’t “fix” or “solve” shame
Song in the intro- "Light of the Mountain" by Brandon Tilt
I acknowledge that I learn, grow and heal on the unceded ancestral lands of the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm , the Katzie, the Stó:lō and the Tseil-Watuth First Nations. These lands were never abandoned nor surrendered by those with the ancestral rights to steward and protect these lands.
I honor and respect the elders, the children, the land stewards, the land protectors, the medicine keepers, and the men and women of all Indigenous nations.
Huy ch q’u (thank you) to those who support the indigenous communities and actively decolonize their minds and spirits.
Aho Mitakuye Oyasin, All my relations.
