Description

In this episode I explore the necessary topic of oppression. I apply my lens more broadly, to shed some light on the nature of how we can liberate ourselves from the internalized shame and fear of oppressive systems.

I apply my philosophical lens to this topic with a curiosity, humbling myself in how I approach this sensitive and complex episode.

Other subtopics explored:

- What is oppression?

- How we perpetuate self-oppression

- Intergenerational trauma

- Immigration

- Creating community around our children

- Spirituality and Liberation

I do my best to explore these topics given my perspective and experiences but as a white male living in Canada I can only really offer a fragment of the story, which I view as a sobering and tragic collective account of human suffering.

I feel that as we are living separated from, yet inextricably connected to the experience of humanity (or inhumanity) felt and lived by our brothers and sisters globally it is our role to use our voices to connect and unify those under pressure by these oppressive forces.

Song in intro- "Light of the Mountain" by Brandon Tilt

I acknowledge that I learn, grow and heal on the unceded ancestral lands of the Kwikwetlam first nation, the Stolo and the Tseil-Watuth first nations. These lands were never abandoned nor surrendered by those with the ancestral rights to steward and protect these lands.

I honor and respect the elders, the children, the land stewards, the land protectors, the medicine keepers, and the men and women of all indigenous nations.

Huy ch q’u (thank you) to those who support the indigenous communities and actively decolonize their minds and their spirits.

Aho Mitakuye Oyasin, All my relations.
