Subject matter warning: A difficult but necessary discussion on surviving child sexual abuse trauma, the Epstein files, the enabling political class, and enablers in general. How do we use stories for healing?
Alle C. Hallhas done much to draw attention to an issue society likes to ignore. We ignore it at our peril. I think the lesson I learn from this conversation is that we can judge the virtue, or lack of virtue of a society by how children are treated.
We got into all kinds of things during this conversation. Not only the terrible situation with the denial happening in our institutions, and how we can heal as adults, but also about writing.
Writing techniques such as inference, changing tense and person in the middle of a story, and good clues about dialogue. We don’t want to tell the story in a dialogue, that’s for narration. Dialogue is character development.
At her Substack, Alle likes to help other writers not only with technique, but with self promotion. She knows it’s hard for a lot of writers to do that. And, it is, for real. She offers insights on presenting manuscripts. It’s a lot of good info.
We mention one of our mutual favorite writers, Dr. Dana Leigh Lyons, DTCM. It turns out Alle has been interviewed by Dana as they have a lot in common regarding living abroad in Asia, and their healing through Eastern practices. As for me, I never miss a post by Dana and I suggest you check her out. This is a nice coincidence.
Alle’s book, As Far as You Can Go Before You Have to Come Back has been honored nineteen times. The recognition this book gets seems to not slow down.
