Jesse writes a lot of urban and combat fantasy. We had a lot of fun discussing inter-dimensional concepts as it relates to writing. He read a piece from his book Gravesinger. Some of the things we touched on had to do with the role of combat and war as apart of human nature. It seems like a lot of battle oriented writing also has a fair share of compassion as it relates to triage. We are a weird species that way. Bonds often form in competition and battle.
Jesse’s thoughts about consciousness and the origin of thought were, as is usual among writers, unique and intelligent. He made points related to the differences we have with other animals. Ideas about how we have an ability to think beyond instincts.
Also read by Jesse was “The Last in Line” from the Rings of Adventure Anthology. This one was a lot more action packed and included some clever wordplay with tinnitus, and some fun with a singing part.
I would be remiss to not mention Hard Lens Mediahere because Jesse and Kit, the host of HLM really have so much in common in terms of their love of battle mythology. Also, in dealing with family grief. Our friend Sean was in the chat for the conversation and he agrees about that.
This conversation is a part of a series I’m doing with several Raconteur Presswriters. We’ll be having more of these one-on-one discussions as well as some story circles. If you are a publisher or a publicist, contact me about having a series like this for your writers.
