“Faith is a muscle”.
If you are a true follower of Christ, I think you’ll not only know what this means but you’ll know what it feels like when this muscle is being worked! It’s not usually easy or painless but the reward on the other side is greater than you can ever imagine. This might sound cliche to you, but as someone who’s experienced this kind of muscle work many times in my life, the refining is always worth the fire!
As Elijah and Charlene retell the traumatic story of Elijah’s death, one word keeps going through my mind: mercy. It is only because of God’s great mercy that Elijah is alive and completely well! God’s story meant Elijah was to remain on this earth and it’s easy to see reasons why; family, testimony, etc… But is there more? Why was Elijah saved when others perish? The question I think always comes back to: can we accept that it might never make sense and/or we might never know the reason? Can we trust that God is good even when our “Elijah” isn’t saved?
I’m not sure ‘good’ is the right adjective. Because in my definition of what good is, God isn’t always that. That’s why I believe these miracles are actually showing us God’s mercy; and that is something I know I will never deserve!
“What shall we say then? Is there injustice on God’s part? By no means! For he says to Moses, ‘I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.’So then it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy.” -Romans 9:14-16
