Description

There’s a moment in The Fellowship of the Ring when Gandalf, standing on a crumbling bridge, plants his staff in the ground and commands a demon of chaos to halt:“You shall not pass!”

We are now in that moment in American democracy.

This is a call to every elected official, every business leader, every Ivy League executive, every foreign diplomat, and every everyday citizen who thinks that rolling over to Trumpism will somehow help them survive the next chapter of this authoritarian horror story.

Spoiler: It won’t.

Yesterday, Senator Josh Hawley briefly remembered he was an adult. He introduced a bill banning members of Congress — and the President and Vice President — from trading individual stocks. It was the right move. For once, the broken clock struck the correct time.

But like clockwork, Trump barked.

And just hours later, Hawley collapsed. He retreated. He apologized. He begged for mercy on MAGA media. The same man who ran from the January 6 mob now runs from his own moment of integrity. This is a cautionary tale — not just about Josh, but about a system infested with cowardice.

We need to stop bowing to this mentally deteriorating, 79-year-old political cult leader who demands fealty, not service.

To Harvard and Columbia — stop selling your prestige for proximity to power. To Paramount and Skydance — bribing your way into MAGA’s favor won’t save your bottom line.To world leaders — stop flying across oceans to kiss the ring of a man who spits on your sovereignty.

You’re not just giving up political ground. You’re giving up your dignity. Your agency. Your humanity.

This is bigger than Trump. It's about the people and institutions who have normalized self-humiliation just to stay on his good side. MAGA has turned powerful adults into hollow shells who whisper, “Please don’t hurt me,” while handing over the keys to democracy.

To that we say: Hell no.

We need to find our inner Gandalf the Gray. The one who says “You shall not pass” to tyranny. The one who is willing to fall fighting the demon in the darkness — because we know we’ll rise again, stronger, as Gandalf the White.

Yes, standing up is hard. But appeasement is weakness dressed in a tie.

So let this be a challenge to everyone:

* To Democrats: Stop pretending bipartisanship with fascism is noble.

* To Republicans who know better: Stop pretending MAGA is conservatism.

* To citizens: Stop waiting for someone else to lead the charge. Be the damn charge.

This moment doesn’t need more collaborators or cautious observers. It needs resistance. Unapologetic, clear-eyed, moral resistance.

Because if we can’t find our voice now, we may lose the right to use it later.

So stand up. Plant your feet. Channel your inner Gandalf. And when Trump and his MAGA Balrog come charging — look them in the eye and say:

“You shall not pass.”
