For a long time, I thought prayer had to be big. I grew up hearing Black Baptist prayers that were so extravagant and passionate they felt untouchable - like there was a cadence or structure I was missing. It made me afraid to pray out loud, and eventually, I stopped praying at all unless life was heavy or urgent. A sick loved one. A crisis. A wish for something almost impossible, like winning the lottery.
But prayer is too beautiful to only reach for in extremes. I wanted something I could return to every single day - not just when life demanded it. Something simple enough to fit into my morning routine or slip into a midday pick-me-up. Something that could anchor me in protection, prosperity, practice, and play, all in one breath.
That’s where this Daily Prayer comes in. Think of it like a modern version of the bedtime prayers so many of us grew up reciting (“Now I lay me down to sleep…”). But instead of only covering one moment, this one travels with you - keeping you enlightened and embodied throughout your day.
My journey with prayer has been long and beautiful. I’ve studied different religions and spiritual practices, leaned into my Hoodoo roots, and always found myself coming back to scriptures like Psalms 23. Over time, I realized my sweet spot was less about formality and more about intimacy - praying for specific things, praying as conversation, praying as connection.
The Dark Divines is more than a newsletter - it’s an initiation. FREE: keeps you close - receive my writings, rituals, & musings to remind you of your own power. PAID: subscription is devotion. It opens the doors to The Archive - a hidden library of past writings, playlists, classes, & deeper teachings. One keeps you inspired. The other lets you go deeper. Pick one & transform your life.
This prayer was also inspired by my circle of prayer sisters (shoutout to Dem Gods girls), who for years have created a safe space where we could pray however we needed to that day. Their presence reminded me that prayer doesn’t need perfection. It just needs honesty.
So here it is: a short, satisfying prayer you can use daily - whether you’re starting your morning, needing a reset in the middle of the day, or winding down at night. My hope is that it helps you strengthen your prayer practice in a way that feels natural, modern, and deeply nourishing.
Press play, let the words wash over you, and remember: prayer is just a conversation with the Divine, however you name them. May this one carry you.
