For this episode I interview Matthew Forbes, Head Seedsperson at Saturday Seed Co. Saturday Seed Co was born in April 2020 - like many of us, the pandemic put a pause to business (Matthew is also the barber of "Matthew's Barbershop") and he turned to his lifelong love of seeds to find a fulfilling and meaningful new way to contribute to community. Matthew and I talk about his role as a "seed curator", from finding seeds from Ukraine, to seeds from local trusted farms, to growing his own plants from gifted seeds in order to reproduce these seeds that have traveled the world to be available here.
He talks about the benefits of starting your planting with open-pollinated, organic, GMO-free seeds, the beauty of backyard gardening and how it can have a different fulfilling purpose for different people, and the magic of a seed itself, this tiny thing that can make so much possible.
We don't want to dig up our gardens and yards just yet (there are many bees and other creatures just starting to wake up) but it's not too early to think about seeds! Tune in for Matthew, and head to saturdayseedco.ca if you want to learn more. Thank you Matthew!
