❤️ Special Note: It would make my day if a listener (or twenty) sent this podcast to Mr. Pete Buttigieg, because I’d like to talk to him. He’s made a mistake, and I’d like to offer him the fellowship to return to his integrity.
Some Backstory
A friend of mine recently told me that Pete Buttigieg recently threw trans people under the bus. She’s a white cisgender straight mother, who doesn’t have a trans kid and who lives in a deeply conservative area where Christian nationalists worldviews are the norm. She spoke to me in outrage, asking: “Why do Democrats do this? Why did Pete do this? Doesn’t he understand that we need the biggest tent possible? How is it possible that I’m more inclusive than a member of the LGBTQ mafia?” It’s a good question, and this podcast is more or less my answer to her question.
I hope you’ll give it a listen and, if it impacted you, I hope you share it with your friends directly, via text or email. Help this tiny pod get around the weaponized algorithm.
There’s a way to deescalate bigotry in fascist times, and this is a way to do it.
I think many of us may need practice learning to call out bigotry, because bigotry spreads— it’s the antithesis of neighborliness. It means to sow division and fear, and it always paves the way for fascism. That’s why in world war times you saw all those posters helping people recognize hateful fascist propaganda. Consider this podcast in that tradition.
