Aloha!
We just got back from a whirlwind week on the Big Island of Hawai’i, and now that the jet lag has ebbed, we’re excited to recap our time in gay paradise. We stayed on the east side of the island, in the rainforests south of Hilo (the largest city on the island). It’s much quieter on that side of the island, which we always prefer, and it’s also got a gay black sand beach and a LGBTQ+ adults-only guesthouse. Say less!
On this week’s episode, we recount our adventures on the island, from our first time staying at a clothing-optional resort, to our gay-owned breakfast obsession, and Matt’s birthday in Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park.
Where we stayed: Kehena Mauka Nui Club
Where we ate: Pele’s Kitchen, Ning’s Thai Cuisine, The Oasis, Uncle George’s Lounge, Volcano Winery, Ken’s House of Pancakes, Ola Brew, The Hidden Nēnē, Pa'auilo Chocolate
Where we explored: Lava Tree State Monument, Pohoiki Bay and Hot Spring, Kehena Beach, Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park, Uncle Robert’s Awa Bar and Farmers Market, ‘Akaka Falls State Park, Panaewa Rainforest Zoo and Gardens, Beach 67, Beach 69

Thank you for following The Gay Lane. To support independent queer creators, please consider subscribing or making a donation. We take great Pride in authenticity and originality, and that means going the extra mile — or thousands of miles — to celebrate queer culture in unexpected places. This may sound simple, but it takes a great deal of intentional effort, time, and resources to bring this to life with the quality and care that we believe it deserves. Your support makes all the difference.
