This week’s articles kept circling back to one simple but difficult truth.
Human beings do not like surrender.
We prefer control. Plans. Strategies. Backup plans for the backup plans. If a problem appears, our instinct is usually to tighten our grip and try to solve it ourselves.
But Scripture repeatedly tells a different story.
In Numbers 21, Israel faced a crisis in the wilderness. Venomous serpents spread through the camp, and God’s remedy seemed almost absurdly simple.
A bronze serpent lifted on a pole.
Look.
And live.
Healing came not through human control but through trust in what God had already provided.
Centuries later, Jesus pointed directly back to that moment and said it was pointing to Him. Just as the serpent was lifted up in the wilderness, the Son of Man would be lifted up so that all who look to Him might live.
The pattern is the same today.
When life feels chaotic, the instinct is to stare at the problem. Scripture invites us to do something different.
Lift our eyes.
This song was written to capture that moment of decision — the moment where surrender becomes trust, and trust becomes peace.
Lyrics
[Intro]When the night grows heavyAnd the road grows steepWhen the future whispersPromises it cannot keep
There’s a voice still callingThrough the noise and fearA quiet invitationSaying mercy still is here
[Verse 1]In the desert of questionsWhere the weary hearts would roamBread from heaven fallingStill they said they felt alone
Then the serpents started strikingThrough the camp of restless criesGod raised up a remedyAnd said, “Look up and live… lift your eyes.”
[Pre-Chorus]When the answer seems too simpleWhen the healing seems too smallFaith begins the momentWe surrender it all
[Chorus]Eyes upLook to the crossThe place where mercy won the warEyes upTrust in the OneWho knew the ending long before
When fear says fight this world aloneAnd hope feels nearly goneLift your eyesThe victory’s already won
[Verse 2]In a garden late at midnightWhere the olive shadows fellThe Son knelt down in silenceKnowing very well
That the road would lead through sufferingAnd the nails would pierce His handsYet He whispered to the Father“I will trust Your greater plans.”
[Pre-Chorus]When surrender feels like breakingWhen the cost feels far too highGrace begins to moveWhen we trust the reason why
[Chorus]Eyes upLook to the crossThe place where mercy won the warEyes upTrust in the OneWho knew the ending long before
When fear says fight this world aloneAnd hope feels nearly goneLift your eyesThe victory’s already won
[Verse 3]Now the battle still surrounds usEvery heart must choose its groundWill we cling to our controlOr let the walls fall down
Peace is not the absenceOf the storms that rage withinIt is knowing Christ is strongerThan the wars we cannot win
[Bridge]Lay it downRelease the fightPlace the battle in His hands tonight
Stand in faithHold the lineTrust the Author of all time
The cross still stands above the stormThe empty grave rewrites the war
[Final Chorus]Eyes upLook to the crossWhere love defeated every graveEyes upTrust in the OneWhose power reaches down to save
When darkness tries to steal the dawnAnd hope feels almost goneLift your eyesThe victory’s already won
[Outro]Lift your eyesLook and liveGrace has already made the way
Lay it downStand in peaceThe King is still alive today
