Now this was a lively Live, wasn’t it?

Lawrence Winnerman and I hosted Jonathan Small on the weekly GenXy recorded podcast (going live tomorrow), and we had so much fun, we decided to continue to conversation Live.

We were joined by about 30 of our favorite Substack pals as we explored the quintessential GenX anthems.

Some songs and artists we discussed: the Beastie Boys (“Fight for Your Right” versus “Sabotage”), Nirvana (“Smells Like Teen Spirit”), a slew of one-hit wonders (from “Take on Me” to “Tainted Love”), and a lively conversation about Prince, whereby Lawrence and I both admitted our young selves both thought the lyric, “I met her in a hotel lobby / masturbating with a magazine,” meant Nikki was literally using a magazine as an insertable device, and we were confused.

See, 45 years of friendship, and we can still surprise each other!

Jonathan has an article on the top GenX anthems—and a winner—going live tomorrow morning. I’ll update this story with a link once it’s live. I might not agree with his choice, but I’m 100% certain it’s going to be a great read.

Huge thanks to Karen Marie Shelton, Robert Sawers, and especially Jane W Shaw for joining us for today’s shenanigans.

Tune in every weekday at 10am ET/7am PT for the ongoing fun times at The Daily Whatever.

Love you mean it!
