Description

Under the baton of Wilson Ng—who co-founded the newly established Asian Modern Symphony Orchestra (TMSO) alongside a group of Hong Kong’s rising young musicians—the ensemble made its highly anticipated debut last night at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre.

Presented by Music Lab, the first of two inaugural concerts featured a bold and diverse programme that bridged Western classics with contemporary Asian works. Highlights included Ye Xiaogang’s Scent of Green Mango for piano and orchestra, Unsuk Chin’s subito con forza, Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite, and Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G major (soloist KaJeng Wong). The concert concluded with Ravel’s Boléro—a demanding orchestral showpiece notorious for putting the finesse and fitness of each section to the test.

This footage was filmed on 31 July 2025 at the HKCC.
