Three portrait concerts of Ye Xiaogang, arguably China's most performed and pre-eminent composer, were staged in a week.
It started with two sold-out concerts of his Symphony No. 5 "Lu Xun" on March 28 to 29 in Shenzhen and Guangzhou, performed by Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Lin Daye. The frenzy continued last night at the Shanghai Symphony Hall when Chen Xieyang led Shanghai Symphony Orchestra in three of Ye's signatures.
The concert is a lineup of the Shanghai Spring International Music Festival.
With music performed by top orchestras conducted by directors at halls known for the best acoustics, Ye has pushed singlehandedly contemporary music into spotlight. Here's a glimpse into his portrait concert on April 2nd in Shanghai.
