The lantern slides of Lord Asriel counter the poisoned wine of the Master. Enmeshed in the political tension between the two, we hear about Dust, the Northern Lights, the Grumman expedition, the Magisterium, panserbjorne, and the alethiometer, which foretells of an adventure for Lyra. After the discussion of chapter 2 and its coda, we have a recess including Pan's first transformation and Lyra's first chance to explore the college grounds, albeit by night.
