This sermon was originally delivered at Emmanuel Chinese Baptist Church in Overland Park, KS, on December 18, 2022.
This sermon was the first I preached at ECBC and served as my “interview” for ministerial service there. I would be called to serve starting in April 2023 and continue for a year before joining the Sovereign Joy Baptist Church plant in Liberty, MO.
By the Lord’s grace, listening back on this years later, I can see ways I have grown significantly in preaching. But it is these “small beginnings” that are necessary to provide a foundation and footing for where I get to be today. Praise Yahweh!
In this Christmas-season exposition of Isaiah 9:1–7, Kenny invites us to sit with Mary as she treasured the shepherds’ words and pondered the staggering prophecy about her infant Son. From the darkness of exile and spiritual blindness, a great light dawns; a child is born to us, a Son is given—Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace—whose shoulder will bear an everlasting kingdom of justice, righteousness, and unending peace. Are you walking in this light, and who in your life still needs to see it?
