This sermon was originally delivered at Emmanuel Chinese Baptist Church in Overland Park, KS, on August 13th, 2023.
In this urgent exposition of Matthew 25:1–13—the Parable of the Ten Virgins—Kenny warns of the bridegroom’s sudden return, contrasting the wise (prepared with extra oil) who enter the feast with the foolish (unprepared) who are shut out forever. Drawing from a missionary training mishap to illustrate the perils of complacency, he explains the “oil” as spiritual readiness: regeneration by the Spirit, renewal of the mind through Scripture, bearing fruit like self-control and godly living, and sharing the gospel with the lost. Assurance grows through obedience, he stresses, while passivity heaps wrath. Quoting Titus 2:11–14, Kenny calls: Renounce ungodliness, wait in hope for Christ’s appearing, and live zealously for good works.
