Sermon on Sound Cloud

Hey Friends,

This is past Sunday I preached a short sermon on newness.

Text: Luke 5:36-39 NLT

Big Ideas:

#1 New Goals: We should shift our goals towards Christ.

Sermon Illustration borrowed from Francis Chan Be more Like Jesus

Quotes: Do you want to sell sugar water for the rest of your life or come with me and change the world?” — Steve Jobs to John Sculley while trying to hire him from Pepsi.

“God did not direct His call to Isaiah— Isaiah overheard God saying, “. . . who will go for Us?” The call of God is not just for a select few but for everyone. Whether I hear God’s call or not depends on the condition of my ears, and exactly what I hear depends upon my spiritual attitude.”― Oswald Chambers, My Utmost for His Highest

“Raising your children to love and serve Jesus is fulfilling one of God’s highest callings upon your life.” ― Elizabeth George

“A job is a vocation only if someone else calls you to do it for them rather than for yourself. And so our work can be a calling only if it is reimagined as a mission of service to something beyond merely our own interests. Thinking of work mainly as a means of self-fulfillment and self-realization slowly crushes a person.” ― Timothy Keller, Every Good Endeavor: Connecting Your Work to God’s Plan for the World

Idea #2 New Confession

[Joe 3:10 NKJV] 10 Beat your plowshares into swords And your pruning hooks into spears; Let the weak say, 'I [am] strong.' "

In the Message Version: “Let the weak one throw out his chest

and say, ‘I’m tough, I’m a fighter.’ Hurry up, pagans! Wherever you are, get a move on!

Get your act together. Prepare to be shattered by God!”

Idea #3 reNEWed Commitment to Learning, Leaning and Loving Christ

The Colossians thought they could graduate beyond Jesus Christ. They took Him as Lord and Savior, but they felt they could advance to higher and deeper things. Higher and deeper things beyond Jesus.

In short, if we ever get to the place where Jesus Christ isn’t enough … if we ever get to the place where we feel we can advance beyond Him … then we haven’t met the Christ of Colossians. And our Christ is too small.

If one of those random ideas/thoughts blessed you and you want to be a blessing then going right ahead :)
