THE MON is the solo project of Urlo—bassist, vocalist and synth player of heavy psychedelic rock band Ufomammut, as well as being a core part of Supernatural Cat and Malleus.
Songs of Abandon (out on the 7th of November on Supernatural Cat and the first in a two part concept to be followed by Songs of Embrace in 2026) is the latest record from THE MON and one with an unusual story—as well as being uniquely acoustic-guitar driven compared to Urlo’s other releases (both as THE MON and with Ufomammut).
Urlo and I discuss the background of the album, the writing, recording and the production. We talk about some of the album’s inspirations like Black Sabbath and Syd Barrett and we consider what makes music heavy and the ineffable qualities of Nirvana, Kyuss and Led Zeppelin.
