The Law of God did not have, and does not have, a vital purpose. The word "vital" is historically derived from the Latin word vita meaning "life“ – like in vitamin. The English word "vital" refers to that which is "concerned with, or the basis of, manifesting life." It was not God's divine purpose to provide divine life in the Divine Law. Instrumentally, the Law pointed to the Life (God) that was to come in Jesus Christ.
