Vengeance is classically viewed as harsh acts that affect the human body, such as murder. This couldn’t be further from the truth. We learn in the Pictorial Hebrew that the word vengeance (nahkam) is the action that follows chaos. Hebrew customs reveal that vengeance is to reveal, disclose, divulge, tell, give away, leak, unmask, expose, bring out into the open, spill, kiss, tell a secret and sell a family member to the enemy. Judas’s act of the “kiss of death” is believed by the Hebrew people to be the worse form of vengeance.
