Hello from Hamtown aka Hamtramck aka the border of Detroit aka the Weirdest Place I've ever Lived! Don’t believe me? Check out Hamtramck Disneyland, next on our to-do list!
You can almost see us down there, hauling trash out of what I’ve been referring to as our “plush gnome domicile.”
How are we doing, you ask? Well, we’ve been eating nothing but pierogis and sour cream courtesy of our favorite polish deli. Discovering delicious Yemeni recipes has been life changing, too. I mean, C’mon…this stuff is insane!
Apparently my hair color is all the rage in this majority Muslim community…(Orange is the new black in Bangladesh). Yep, I really fit in here!
We’ve been getting lots of cat calls and strange looks (more than normal, anyway) thanks to our dogs’ new Coyote Vests. Sure, they look punk rock, but they are truly are a lifesaver. Behold, their new outfits—not just a fashion statement. “It’s a lifestyle!”
Vinyl pre-orders for our new record starts Aug. 23 via Kitten Robot Records (NOT October 23 - no idea why my brain said that). Of course, the album drops everywhere 9/13/22 followed by a tour that takes us through the Midwest and a bit of California…Look for limited edition Icee cups at the merch table, maybe? (Please don’t sue us, Icee).
If one sign could exemplify how far we’ve flown the coop, it would be this one—posted up at a storefront near our house. (P.S. I went inside: Did not see any live birds, but the freezer section is a little mysterious).
The Hamtramck community library garden is my favorite thing ever. Because ALL libraries should have gardens with wicked cool street art!!! You will probably find me here a lot, regardless of the fact that the librarian is persnickety about whether I live in Detroit or Hamtramck. Don’t worry, I am working on her.
The Painted Lady, below, is an institution! Also pictured: Me posing with my girl Frida in Mexicantown. (YES, we finally had legit street-style tacos and it was glorious). After all, we all Californians at heart…
XOXO
