Phoebe feels kindly toward Mrs. Hopewell in Flannery O'Connor's classic short story, "Good Country People," flabbergasting Kelly, who finds every last character in the story dim and self-deluded, except Manley Pointer, who is a vicious psychopath but plenty clever.
