Raised in a small New South Wales town in Australia, Aaron Dries is a man of many dark talents. As a filmmaker, he’s won several awards for his short films at home and abroad, including Best Film at the Newcastle Film Festival for Placebo, coinciding with the publication of his earliest stories in literary magazines. His highly acclaimed novels include House Of Sighs, The Fallen Boys, A Place For Sinners and Where the Dead Go To Die as co-written with Mark Allan Gunnels along with a slew of short stories and chapbooks.

His newest book, a novella called Dirty Heads, is a fast-paced poetic abstract of a monster tale. It’s a coming-of-age story about a young man who dreams of monsters while searching for his place in life and instead comes face to face with not only his own troubled identity, but the very monsters he has created. It is, ultimately, the book which brought us together for this poignant discussion in which we uncover the makings of one of the most promising dark curators working in the horror genre today.
