“The world is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper.” —W.B. Yeats

Welcome to Issue 13!

Hello and welcome to It’s Kismet, a weekly curated list of holistic health content I thought was worth sharing with more people!

It’s another Monday. The start to another week of work for many of us. Sure Mondays can be boring and also hectic but all I can think about is magic, potions, astrology, and related practices. These practices are very cultural and for some people are passed down through generations accompanied by ancestral knowledge and really beautiful stories. But I also think that they carry a lot of weight for our mental health and how we practice different forms of healthy living. I think it’s important we pass down these traditions and actually find the reasons why/how they impact our life and make us healthier.

Here are the questions I’m going to leave you with this week: Do you practice Magic? Do you believe in horoscopes or reading the tea leaves and knowing your future?

💭 Food for Thought

Mixing Meditation and Magic Mushrooms?Read

Mushroom-assisted meditators reported less self-consciousness and more illusions and hallucinations than the control group. What’s more, their brains showed alterations in the functioning of the default mode network—a group of interacting brain regions linked to self-awareness and rumination—during open awareness meditation. This makes sense, given prior research showing that psilocybin and meditation can affect the brain in similar ways, and one of those ways is to create a feeling that a person’s self-conscious awareness is dissolving.
