I started the ‘Rhyming Times’ series back in April 2024, as a reflection on both Britain’s structural weakness and the comfortable delusions of US sentimental support for the UK and Europe. I had no idea then that the near future would actually involve a re-appearance of the ruthless calculation the US hegemon had so welcomingly soft-pedalled during my lifetime.
