Good morning, good afternoon, good evening. It’s Tuesday, October 7th, and this is The Record🗞️.
Today’s show is about power — who has it, who’s losing it, and who’s trying to take it back. From Trump threatening to send U.S. troops into American cities and state leaders calling it an invasion, to Oregon’s GOP fabricating chaos online — the playbook is familiar: create fear, justify control.
And while the U.S. stumbles through its own crisis of truth and federal overreach, the Middle East is rewriting history in real time. Two years after October 7, Gaza lies in ruins, Israel stands isolated, and Trump’s calling it peace.
This isn’t just about politics. It’s about what happens when propaganda becomes governance — and when democracy starts to look like a performance.
So here we go.
🗞️ 1: Trump Threatens to Invoke Insurrection ActWhat’s happening:Donald Trump said he would consider using the 1807 Insurrection Act to deploy U.S. troops to cities like Portland and Chicago if state or local leaders block his National Guard orders.
What to know:The law allows the president to use military force for domestic law enforcement — last invoked during the 1992 L.A. riots. Illinois has sued, calling it an illegal federal overreach and an attack on state authority.
My take:This isn’t about “law and order.” It’s about control. The threat to send troops into American cities should chill everyone who still believes in democracy.
🗞️ 2: Oregon GOP Caught Using Fake Protest Images What’s happening:Oregon’s Republican Party posted doctored images of Portland protests, using photos from Ecuador and Brazil to make the city look like a war zone.
What to know:The post backed Trump’s false claim that Portland was “burning to the ground.” After being called out, party officials brushed it off, saying, “We’re not reporters, just bad memers.”
My take:That’s not a meme — it’s disinformation. When political parties start remixing reality for engagement, democracy becomes a content farm.
🗞️ 3: Texas Troops Deploy to Illinois Under Federal OrderWhat’s happening:Texas National Guard troops began arriving in Illinois after a federal judge declined to block Trump’s troop order, despite lawsuits from state officials.
What to know:Governor JB Pritzker called it “Trump’s invasion,” accusing the White House of hijacking Illinois’ National Guard without consent — a move legal experts say could fuel unrest and violate the Constitution’s federalism clause.
My take:If a president can send your state’s troops against your will, it’s not a democracy — it’s occupation with paperwork.
🗞️ 4: Gaza War Nears End as Region Reshapes What’s happening:Two years after Hamas’ October 7 attacks, the war in Gaza is finally nearing its end — but the region will never be the same.
What to know:It began with the deadliest massacre of Jews since the Holocaust and continued with the worst Palestinian suffering since 1948. Over 67,000 Palestinians and nearly 2,000 Israelis have been killed, and alliances across the Middle East have shifted.
My take:This isn’t peace — it’s exhaustion. Israel may have won battles, but it lost global trust. Palestinians are displaced, grieving, and still stateless. And somehow, Trump is trying to call it a peace plan.
🧠Gut Check Some weeks it feels like every headline is a test of how much we’re willing to tolerate.Troops on standby. Disinformation dressed as memes. Courts stretched to their limits. And still, the world spins — faster, louder, more fragile.
Maybe the real question isn’t How did it get this bad?Maybe it’s What will it take for us to stop normalizing it?
Because if history keeps repeating itself, maybe the problem isn’t the cycle.Maybe it’s our silence between revolutions.
