In April of 1861, the United States Navy lost control of perhaps its most valuable base: the Gosport Naval Yard, located at Norfolk, Virginia. Bungling, hesitation, and fear led to a series of crucial mistakes. Join us to explore the key events, as well as a (very) quick overview of American naval history, finishing with the Union response to the fall of the Norfolk.
