CINQUE COSE BELLE… about birthdays.

Sto per andare al supermercato a comprare le candeline, me ne servono 35... domani festeggerò con la mia famiglia Australiana ed ho in mente di preparare una torta alla frutta come quelle che mi faceva mamma.
Sono nata in autunno dopo la vendemmia, il 31 ottobre 1986, erano circa le tre del mattino. Mamma il giorno prima aveva deciso di andare a mangiare un gelato ad Asti (18 chilometri da Govone, il mio paese) così da essere vicini all'ospedale in caso io avessi deciso di nascere. Un gelato alla crema. Sarà per questo che amo così tanto il gelato?
Adoro il mio compleanno! Lo adoro così tanto che dal primo di ottobre inizio già a trascorrere alcuni minuti al giorno saltellando in giro per la casa cantando:
“Tra poco è il mio compleanno, tra poco è il mio compleanno.”
Amo festeggiarlo e amo festeggiare quello degli altri. Mi piace organizzare feste a sorpresa, tirare le orecchie, scrivere biglietti speciali o addirittura inventare canzoncine stonate da inviare con messaggi vocali.
Quest’anno lo festeggio anche con te che stai leggendo! Sono felicissima e davvero non so cosa esprimere quando soffiero’ sulle candeline perché in questi 35 anni ho già avuto tutto ciò che desideravo e anche tutto quello che è successo nel frattempo...!
In questi anni mi sono divertita un mondo; ho amato alla follia ed ho sposato l’uomo dei miei sogni; sono diventata la mamma di Wonder; ho amici in tutto il mondo; ho preso aerei senza mai sapere esattamente dove mi avrebbero portato; ho pianto ininterrottamente per giorni e ballato di felicità per altrettanti; ho il lavoro piu’ bello del mondo; ho avuto una sorella che mai mi sarei aspettata ed ho una famiglia bellissima, stiamo ristrutturato la casa più bella dell'universo... e last but not least ho due cani meravigliosi seduti accanto a me.
Perciò ad un giorno dal mio compleanno vi ringrazio gia’ per gli auguri che spero mi farete :) e me li terrò stretti al cuore, uno a uno! Ti auguro “un buon non compleanno”!

I'm about to go to the supermarket to buy candles, I need 35 of them... tomorrow I will celebrate with my Australian family and I plan to prepare a fruit cake like the ones mom used to make me.I was born in the autumn after the wine harvest, on October 31st, 1986, at around three in the morning. Mom had decided the day before to go and eat ice cream in Asti (18 kilometers from Govone, my village), so she would be close to the hospital in case I decided to be born. A custard flavored ice cream. Could this be why I love ice cream so much?I love my birthday! I love it so much that from the first of October, I already start spending a few minutes a day hopping around the house singing:
“Soon it's my birthday, soon it's my birthday.”I love to celebrate it and I love to celebrate other people's birthdays, too. I like to organize surprise parties, pull ears, write special cards or even invent out-of-tune songs to send with voice messages.This year I will also celebrate it with you, my readers! I am very happy and I really do not know what to say when I will blow out the candles because in these 35 years I have already had everything I wanted and everything else that has happened in the meantime…!
In these years I have had a blast; I loved madly and married the man of my dreams; I became Wonder's mom; I have friends all over the world; I took airplanes without ever knowing exactly where they would take me; I cried continuously for days and danced with happiness for just as many; I have the best job in the world; I had a sister that I never expected and I have a beautiful family, we are renovating the most beautiful house in the universe... and last but not least, I have two wonderful dogs sitting next to me.
So, on the day before my birthday, I already want to thank you for the good wishes that I hope you will send me :) and I will keep them close to my heart, one by one! To you instead, I wish "A Very Merry Unbirthday to You!"

Tanti auguri (listen to pronunciation on forvo fantastic tool to learn pronunciation) literally means “many wishes” and not “happy birthday.” In fact, the Italian word for “birthday” (compleanno) does not even appear in this phrase.
The Italian happy birthday songs follow the same melody as those in English and go like this (you can hear it here):
While ‘for he’s a jolly good fellow’ goes like this:
Perche’ e’ un bravo ragazzo,
Perche’ e’ una bravo ragazzo,
Perche’ e’ un bravo ragazzo,
E nessessuno lo puo’ negar (lit. and no one can say otherwise)
Why not dedicate an Italian song about birthdays? Some are perfect as a wish for a partner, while others are ideal for a mother, a child, or a friend. ↓
