Description

                                      Lyrics below

This song was written by Canadian singer-songwriter Jane Siberry. It comes from her live concert album child, recorded in 1996 at the famous The Bottom Line jazz club in the Greenwich Village area of Manhattan, and released on her own Sheena Records label.

Jane’s website is quite skimpy regarding biographical information. If you want to know more about her career I recommend this article or her Wikipedia entry.

Here are the lyrics, from this site:

Are You Burning, Little Candle?      by Jane Sibbery, 1993

Are you burning, little Candle?High upon the Christmas treeSymbol of a new beginningFaith and hope and sweet release

remind us    Of the children's faces    full of wonder and surprise    Of the laughter in their voices,    the sweetness in their eyes    When they wake up in the morning    with the feeling in their heart   That there's joy in the air    and they know that they're a part    Shine your light on me (little Candle)

Are you shining, little Star?Shining in the skies aboveLift us up into the heavensSymbol of the light of love

Are you spinning, little Dreidel?Spinning tales of long agoSpinning past the little cradleTell us what we used to know    remind us...

Are you watching, little Angel?High above our Christmas treeAngels all around the worldHear us as we pray for peace    remind us...

Are you listening, little pine tree?Silent midst the glistening snowSymbol of the forest stillnessDeepest joy that man can know

Are you singing, little Children?Singing loud and strong and clearSinging all around the worldSing it loud so we can hear    remind us...

Shine your light, shine your lightShine your light, on meLittle Candle, Little Star,Little Angel, Little ChildrenShine your light on me
