Ahoy folks! As I’m writing this, poor President Zelenskyy is probably getting a hug from one of his European allies as they ponder the fate of the free world.
Hey, speaking of…
Since if you’re reading this post or listening to this episode, that question is likely on the forefront of your mind, too, I asked Lake County Democratic Party Chair Mike Repay to give me the run down on that intimidating antidote to the totalitarianism creeping across our nation: running for office. It was a fascinating conversation, but I’m going to boil it down to one quote from Mike:
“This isn’t rocket science. It’s just not that hard.”
I left this conversation convinced that Mike is right. It’s nowhere near as difficult to run for office as I assumed. I can do it. You can do it. We can both do it without disrupting our lives or raiding our 401ks or standing on a debate stage getting heckled by maga conspiracy theorists. Here’s what I, ‘Candidate’ Tracie, asked Mike about:
* Why it’s so important to fill 2026 roles with the Dems we want?
* How do I know if I’m the right kind of person to run for office?
* How much does it cost?
* How will I get help learning how to fundraise?
* Is it going to be an ugly experience?
* Will I have to quit my job
* Will I get fat paid?
* Is it safe for me to serve?
* What’s going to happen to the world if people don’t?
We all know the answer to the last one. We need candidates to rebuild our party, town by town, district by district. It’s a ground war, folks. Suit up, get your walking shoes on and get ready to knock on some doors. It’s time to take the fight for Democracy to the streets and run for office. :)

Oh, and speaking of that again…I lied in this recording. We DO now have a date for that meet and greet, where you can come and ask Mike any questions you have about running for office and let him talk you into it.
