I played a silent movie by accident, and then we decided live-soundtracking silent movies could be a cool stream idea. So every Tuesday for now:

This film was not what I expected and I gotta recommend it! I was only able to consume about half because I was streaming and chatting, but what I saw had a bunch of interesting facets. The costumes, the completely bonkers plot (?), the cinematography, it’s all kind of alien. Seems caught right at the wrong time between the energy of the avant-garde in cosmopolitan Russia and Stalin’s desire for simple state-glorifying stories in film, kind of trying to be “out” and “straight-ahead” at the same time.
