Description

By Michael V. Hannigan

This interview was recorded with Athens Coach Zac Harrell at the Athens ISD Field House on Tuesday, Sept. 12.

The Hornets, 2-1, will be looking for their third consecutive win when they travel to Kaufman Friday night to take on the 0-3 Lions.

Last Week

The Hornets are coming off an exciting 45-38 win over Rusk last week.

"We were really proud of our kids," said Coach Zac Harrell. "I thought we did a lot of good things."

As we talked about last week's game, Coach Harrell discussed:

-- The importance of the defense down the stretch

-- A big game by Brett Horn

-- The special teams stepping up

-- Big play by Jayden Turner

-- David Richardson and Jaxson Stiles at quarterback

-- The importance of the H-back; 10 personnel vs 11 personnel

Please make sure to listen to the interview to catch all of that.

Kaufman

The Hornets will face a physical challenge when they take the field this week. Coach Harrell said don't be fooled by the Lions’ record.

"Kaufman is a big, good, physical football team," he said. "They play a physical brand of football. They're very tough."

Kaufman's defense lines up in multiple fronts, which means the offense line will be tasked with knowing their blocking assignments.

"Kaufman has played all four main fronts that you could possibly play," Coach Harrell said.

He said this will be a great test for the Hornets before they start district play.
