The TVCC Cardinals will look to bounce back from a difficult opener last week when they lost 36-14 to No. 5-ranked Snow College in Utah. This Saturday, the Cards will be in the friendly confines of Bruce Field as they take on the Southern Shreveport Jags.
Last week, the Jags were beaten 44-0 by the Northeastern Oklahoma Golden Norsemen.
While the Cardinals had to fight through some bad weather and injuries against Snow, there were still some positives for Coach Sherard Poteete to build on.
"I thought they did a great job of overcoming some adversity," he said.
Things were a little tougher on the other side of the ball.
"We had some negative things we had to work on this week in practice as we get ready for Southern Shreveport," Coach Poteete said.
There were definitely some highlights, though, including the play of quarterback Darion Peace off the bench and wide receiver Trent Hudson.
"There were some bright points for us to build upon going into this week," Coach Poteete said.
Southern Shreveport's defense will present a challenge for the Cardinals this week.
"Their defense played really hard (against NEO)," Coach Poteete said, adding that 21 of NEO's points came off special teams.
"Those guys are going to be ready to play football," he said.
Coach Poteete stressed the need for the Cardinals to take care of the football this week.
The Cardinals are scheduled to kickoff against the Jags at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bruce Field.
