The No. 2-ranked Malakoff Tigers return to work Friday when they travel to Mexia to take on the Black Cats.

Malakoff is 8-0, 4-0, and Mexia is 3-6, 3-2 and coming off two consecutive wins.

"They're really athletic," said Malakoff Coach Jamie Driskell. "They've got some speed and some kids that can really play."

Coach Driskell said the Black Cats made a change at quarterback that gave their season a spark.

"They've gotten better the last few weeks when they made that move with him," he said.

Mexia is also fast, according to Coach Driskell.

"We have some concerns about their speed, and they've got some playmakers that go up and catch the ball," he said. "We've got to be ready to counter that and we've got to execute defensively."

Malakoff always has a bullseye on its back, but Mexia has extra motivation this week. The Black Cats need a win to keep control of their playoff destiny.

"We're fixing to get their very best," said Coach Driskell.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
