After a big road win last week against Blinn, the TVCC Cardinals have a chance to make a move up in the standings this week when they host the Navarro Bulldogs Saturday afternoon.
Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Bruce Field.
Five teams in the Southwest Junior College Football Conference (SWJCFC) all have one loss as we enter the final stages of the regular season. Four teams will advance to the SWJCFC playoffs.
Navarro brings a 3-1 conference record with them on Saturday. TVCC has a 2-1 conference record.
"We had our open weeks early in the season," said Coach Sherard Poteete. "Some of the teams in our conference have got a bye week maybe later in the year, so they've got the same loss record; it's just they've got one more win than we do. We've got to go see if we can even that up this week."
For the second consecutive week, the Cardinals will go up against a good running team in the Bulldogs.
"They do a great job of running the football, so that's one thing they've got," said Coach Poteete. "Can we stop them and not give up the big play."
The Cardinal defense has been doing a good job forcing turnovers, and that's something that needs to continue.
"If we can create some turnovers, obviously, that bodes really well for us," Coach Poteete said.
Offensively, this game will mark the seventh time TVCC QB Darion Peace and Navarro QB Dane Jentsch have faced each other. Their rivalry goes back to high school when Peace led Grandview over Peace's Malakoff in the state championship game.
"It'll be fun to let those guys go get at it, but you know they're just one of the 22 that will be participating," Coach Poteete said.
