I hosted this week’s Chamber Chat for the Athens Chamber of Commerce. My guest was Trinity Valley Community College Associate Vice President of Workforce Education Kelley Townsend.
Kelley talked about the different programs offered by Workforce Education, who they can benefit, and how to apply.
The main goal of the Trinity Valley Community Workforce Education Division is to “provide premier workforce training resources for students, local business and industry and other organizations in the five county TVCC service area.”
Eight things I learned during this podcast include:
-- Whether you are interested in high tech, business, the trades, or ranch management, TVCC Workforce Education has a program. “We can pretty much address whatever you’re looking for,” Kelley said.
-- TVCC’s Workforce Education has programs that are for credit and also certification programs. Workforce Education also offers ESL and GED programs.
-- If you aren’t sure what you are interested in doing, TVCC can help. They have advisors who will help students through a career interest inventory to find an area that fits.
-- Workforce Education also includes the Trinity Valley Small Business Development Center, which offers free business services for entrepreneurs. You can learn more about the SBDC here.
-- TVCC has a ranch management program, a feedlot program, a beef cattle show team, a rodeo team, a 254-acre ranch. “We have the animal programs. We can teach you how to do that,” Kelley said.
-- TVCC has unique financial aid programs that only apply to Workforce Education. “For those students, we have something to address their barriers.”
-- The first step to enrolling in the Workforce Education program is to apply to TVCC. You do that on the college website and click the admissions tab.
