GLP-1 Studio Podcast – Studio Special
Host: Amanda Bonello
In this Studio Special, I'm sharing work I originally created through the GLP-1 Collective, where I serve as founder and executive director.
2025 brought a wave of insurance cutbacks that left millions of patients scrambling. Coverage restrictions tightened. Prior authorizations piled up. And real people—people who had finally found something that worked—were suddenly cut off.
This piece tells one of those stories. Kristi Turner is a licensed mental health therapist, a mother, a wife, and someone who lost 116 pounds under the care of an obesity specialist. When her school district changed pharmacy benefit managers and her medication was suddenly removed from the formulary, she didn't stay quiet. She fought back.
Her story represents what so many are facing: a system that treats obesity as optional, coverage as negotiable, and patient dignity as an afterthought.
In this episode:
The 2025 insurance landscape and who's cutting coverage
Kristi Turner's fight against her district's "Pathways Program"
Why the data supports GLP-1 coverage—and why patients are still being denied
How to take action through coordinated advocacy
