Description

My menopause share today starts with the realization that I said I was going to do a menopause share every day until my TED talk on August 13th, but I’ve already missed a couple of days. And I realized that I don’t even feel bad about that.

There was a time in my life that if I made an obligation — even just a promise to myself like this — I would feel guilty if I didn’t complete it.

What I realize now is that I just don’t have the energy to feel guilty about that. It is what it is. I’m always doing my best. We’re all doing our best. I don’t have energy for things like guilt, or shame, or jealousy, or spending time overthinking someone’s reaction or body language, or what did it really mean?

Saving Energy For What’s Important

I certainly don’t have the energy to feel badly about myself or about my progress, or about my work, or about any of these things that maybe used to really weigh on me. As a woman in menopause who has an autoimmune disease, I know how important it is to manage my energy.

I know that my energy is sacred. There’s only so many ways I want to spend it. I want to spend my energy on my creativity, on my voice, on my commitments to my work and to my fellow human beings, and to the only mantra that I have ever cared about and ever stuck to: Which is all is one.

So for my menopause share today, please just remember that we are all one human body. And to get caught up in all of these things that make us feel bad or feel separate, it’s all just a ploy to keep us divided and to keep us from coming together.

Let’s take today to remember how sacred your energy is and spend it wisely.
