4 Marks of the Remnant (Against the dominant culture)
To frame this portion of the series, we’ll argue that the dominant culture has invented gods and that these gods have led us into trouble. The response of the remnant is not to condemn those caught in society’s evil but to offer a quiet, simple and consistent alternative so that those in the dominant culture will have, at least, a choice. This is the purpose of both the Holiness Code (Leviticus 18-20) and the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7) and so we’ll compare these Scriptures as the foundation for a moral alternative. This alternative is expressed in four commitments that distinguish the remnant.
The Commitment to Purity (Against Hedonism)
Our current trajectory of unrestrained pleasure, of freedom without responsibility will have tragic consequences for which we, as a culture, are unprepared. These consequences will threaten even our most stable institutions until the society begins to look for an alternative. In that day, a Biblical view of morality, of responsibility and self-control will be an attractive, if unpopular option for some.
The Remnant will keep them selves pure.
