🎙️Ep. 6 ~ A Letter to My Abuser: Healthcare Worker Suicide and a CALL to ACTION❗️

This episode is dedicated to all the nurses and healthcare workers we have lost to suicide as a result of the ongoing abuse and exploitation of healthcare staff especially in hospital settings.

I read the chilling letter “A Letter to My Abuser” written by Tristin Kate Smith, a 28 year old registered nurse who died from suicide on August 7, 2023. The letter was found on her laptop by her family and is dated March 2023.

I also read an entry from my journal at a time when I was going through my own crisis and in desperate need of support. I reflect on what nurses are experiencing at the bedside, and share a couple of personal stories.

I am calling YOU, our community members into action because it is clear that the general public does NOT truly understands how terrible it is to be a bedside nurse these days. And since there continues to be this lack of awareness of the general state of unacceptable working conditions for nurses, we must continue informing and calling in support to will the change that is needed.

Ask yourself this question - Do y’all think a workforce of burnt out, sick, and demoralized nurses and doctors currently have the capacity to build the healthcare system that is needed? Why does the public continue to sit back and watch while our “healthcare heroes” suffer and/or die? This is your call to action and while you may feel helpless, DON’T because there is A LOT you can do to change the current trajectory of the mental health of our distressed healthcare workforce.

If you are in crisis or are concerned a loved one may be there.
